Printer tray not recognized

I have a situation where we setup the same printer 3 times to represent the 3 different trays used for AP check printing. For some reason in Mas200 version 4.30 when printing checks it chooses the correct printer but the tray is not recognized. It is still using the hardware default tray that we setup for plain paper.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

This is a common situation. I suspect it has to do with system printing files retaining incorrect information.

  • I think it has something to do with the paper source in the SY_ReportSetting file. It says 15 for this particualr form but I wouldn't know what to change it to for another tray.
  • My standard workaround for this is to install the printer driver multiple times in windows.  Each instance has a different default tray setting.

I've seen this most commonly with copier/printer/fax type printers and assume it's something to do with incompatible printer drivers.

  • dhalpin,

Tom's suggestion is a good one. Here's another way that should work. Open the Check form with the Crystal Reports designer. Then in Crystal click on File / Printer Setup and check the No Printer checkbox. Save the rpt and close out of Crystal. Test the checks. What's happening is the papertray settings you're setting in MAS is being overridden by the one in the .rpt itself (IOW the one in the .rpt is going to the default tray). I don't know the underlying reason for this yet. I know of one case where it's happening only on Vista PCs printing sales orders (Dawn here on the forums) and another was AP Checks on XP Pro, but both cases were 4.30 and checking No Printer resolved it.

  • Thank you. Problem has been resolved. After going into the printer setup in AP check printing once only and the designer in crw under print setup and setting it to the printer with the tray designated. it seemed to have worked.

Good catch, this is a general workaround for many printer property issues; including duplex printing.

Even if you create a Windows printer and the properties are set specifically, MAS will use default settings until that form is accessed  and the printer properties for that printer are saved in the printing screen's Printer Setup.

  • 8 years later...we are still having this problem. We have tried the solutions here to no avail. Any other ideas?
