MAS 90 3.2 on Windows Small Business Server 2003 w/ Windows XP workstations

I'm working with a company that is preparing to upgrade their server to Windows Small Business Server 2003 and their workstations to Windows XP.  They are currently running MAS 90 3.2.  We are discussing their need to upgrade, but they have not yet made that decision.

I know that MAS 90 3.2 is not supported in this configuration, but I wanted to know if anyone out there has seen this setup.  If so, is MAS 90 3.2 working properly?  If not, what issues were there?  If you haven't seen MAS 90 3.2 running on Windows Small Business Server 2003, what is the oldest version of MAS 90 you've seen successfully running on this network OS?

Thanks for your help.

  • Do you mean 4.2 ? Or are you serious when you say MAS90 version 3.2 ?
  • Yes, I mean MAS 90 3.2
  • The oldest version I've seen is 3.61.

3.2 is really, really, really old.  I recall that around 3.21 it was the character/Windows hybrid version.  I think that's why someone asked -- you don't hear a lot about 3.2 anymore.

    Dawn

  • Dawn, you are correct.  MAS 90 3.2 was called "interoperable" because the user could choose the GUI or DOS interface.  I actually had another client still on version 3.2 because the main user would not give up the DOS interface.  Of course their hardware and operating systems were as old their MAS 90.

The reason I even ask the question is because this company had already committed to new hardware before they approached me to help them move MAS 90.  Since the scheduled date is April 22 I wanted to see what options there were.  Of course, to top things off, this company is not current with their maintenance.  Even if they finally decide to upgrade, I'm not even sure what version they can get to!

I'm still interested to know if anyone knows if MAS 90 3.2 will work on a Windows Small Business Server 2003.

  • I doubt anyone has ever tried it.

It's kind of like wondering if MAS 90 4.3 would run on Windows 95? :smileywink:

  • Birddog -

Take a look at there customer info on the SAGE website, even though they may have stopped paying maintenance, they may have stopped paying it after 3.2 came out. It will show what version they have paid through and you can install that version then. ie, if it shows 3.61 or 3.71 on the site, you can upgrade them to that at least.

TBH, our company policy follows most other software manufacturers: We don't support Win 95 or NT4 anymore, also, we wouldn't support that version of MAS90 unless they upgrade to a minimum of 3.71.

  • I was running 3.4 on that set-up 5 years ago.  Don't know if that helps.
