SLOW Printing

SUGGESTED

We have a client on Sage 100 Standard 5.3 Update 1; the upgrade was done back in April 2016.  Beginning at the end of last week, on two of their Windows 10 workstations it takes about a minute and a half to Quick Print a Sales Order.  On the rest of their workstations it takes less than 20 seconds.

They have turned off the antivirus on the workstations, uninstalled the last Windows updates, moved the workstations to another location to check the port, changed printers and nothing makes any difference.

Is anyone else having a similar issue?  Have you been able to resolve?

Thanks

Troubleshooting needs to focus on network speed. If (for example) those workstations are on a wireless connection, switch to wired and it will likely be better. Sage 100 Standard printing is completely reliant on file access speed.

I was noticing some Windows 10 updates that installed in the last couple of weeks that has caused some problems, but slow printing wasn't one that I noticed.

Regarding Kevin's comment on network speed, I had a client with a similar issue where only some workstations slowed down. It was eventually traced to a problem with their network cabling/switches/hubs etc for those workstations.

This was fixed by the IT guy rolling back the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

So I made a lucky guess. Glad you got it fixed.

We just encountered a massive slowdown in printing. Experienced it on Win7, 8.1 and 10. Both MAS200 4.4 and Sage 100 2016 test deployment. Eliminated AV, network, hardware, host servers as the problem.

Symptoms were a long delay for the print panel to appear across all the modules, and ranged from 30 seconds to 4 minutes before appearing. We discovered that a new profile on a computer experiencing the problem did not have the slowdown; the panel appeared in 4 seconds.

Long story: many hours of troubleshooting, uninstalling, reinstalling, testing, network sniffing, scouring forums, malware scans... Turns out the network print server had a runaway process, consuming the CPU. Printing outside of SAGE100 was working (albeit slow - in hindsight), so it was not considered while troubleshooting the problem. A new profile had no network printers installed, thus the quick panel. Me on the other hand, having all the network printers, took 4 minutes.

I guess the program queries the installed printers before displaying the panel on screen and will wait for the response from all the printers.

Short story: Network print server had a hosed process. The more network printers installed, the longer the delay before the print panel was displayed.
