Are you planning to upgrade to 2018, 2019, or 2020 soon?  If so, when you upgrade, do not install the payroll module.  Keep your 2017 installation in place so  you can access payroll history if necessary.  You'll probably need to copy 2017 and remove the payroll data prior to upgrading, but you can keep another copy of 2017 available for payroll history access.

We are actually in the process of testing to upgrade to 2020. That's where the problem lies. When I attempt to migrate company data to 2020, the migration stops because the payroll module is not installed. We don't pay for payroll so there is no need to have the module installed or carry the data forward. I would like to keep the data, somehow, but still be able to migrate into 2020 once we're ready to upgrade.

Copy 2017, remove payroll in the copy system, and migrate from the 2017 copy of the MAS90 folder.  Keep your 2017 system as is for reference purposes.  To run MAS from the copied files, go to the Home folder.  Click the PVXWIN32.EXE file.  Enter the following to run Sage 100.

run "startup.m4p"

Press enter and the login screen will open.

I am also in the process of upgrading from version 2017 and had to "get rid" of our old payroll module.

• What I did is copy out the PRxxx data directory and saved it somewhere.
• Then I went into Library Master --> Main --> Company Maintenance and clicked the "Convert" button so it would register that the payroll data was gone.
• Then I went into the Library Master --> Setup --> System Configuration and clicked the Uninstall button.

I was able to install 2019 (not going to 2020 right away) and migrate over the data from 2017 with no issues.
