Create SAMINC and SAMSYS in MSSQL
Add them with Database Setup
Run Dbload
Thank you for the answer, but it is very vague. Dload appears to be a 3rd party product. I suspect "Database Dump" and "Database Load" are part of the process, but I can't believe that Sage would require Dload to load sample data.
LOL. Dbload has been a built-in utility since this product came out in 1998. And you've always had to load Sample company, unless you were on Pervasive.
Thank you for your response. It was very helpful. If Sage would improve the quality of their documentation, it would save the time of their support forums.
From the Sage 300 help documentation:
To load a database:
1. Click Start > Sage 300 ERP > Tools > Database Load (or click the Database Load icon on the Sage 300 ERP company desktop).
2. Enter the ADMIN password for Sage 300 ERP, then click OK.
3. Click the Set Directory button, then enter the folder containing the .DCT file for the extracted data you want to load. (The .DCT file is a control file. The actual extracted data is in a subfolder of the same name as the DCT file.)
4. Select the first dataset that you want to load, then click the Next button.
The load utility will allow you to select, in turn, each of the datasets you want to load (for example, a company and then a system dataset).
Remember that each Sage 300 ERP company database is paired to a system database. (You can load the datasets in any order however.)
5. Select the target database that you created earlier, then click Next.
Make sure you select the correct database. The Load Database utility will delete any existing tables in the database you select before loading, and will replace an existing database.
6. In the final dialog box, check that the datasets and destination are correct.
a. To specify another dataset, click Next. Then follow steps 4 and 5.
b. Click Finish to load the selected datasets.
Database Load starts to load the dataset into the target database. If the target database already contains data, Database Load warns that existing data will be overwritten. Check that you are loading the data into the correct location, then click OK or Cancel.
7. When loading is finished, click Cancel to end the session.
Thank you for the detailed assistance.
You stated "Remember that each Sage 300 ERP company database is paired to a system database. (You can load the datasets in any order however.)"
Is that to mean each company should have it's own system database (e.g., NLDATA->NLSYS, SAMINC->SAMSYS)?
The system database is used for security. In the real world, you should only have two system databases, one for Sample company, where you don't really care about security, and another for all your other companies. Anyone who tells you each company needs its own system database is dead wrong.
The biggest misconception is that each company database needs its own system database. You only need one system database for all your company databases. But as Jay says keep the sample databases (SAMINC and SAMLTD) linked to a separate system database (SAMSYS).
Thank you Ettienne for the detail of your explanation. One last question. Is there a special fiscal period for sample data, SAMINC and SAMLTD?
My first time using the system. My apologies to Jay Convers2 for his assistance. I respect his obvious deep knowledge.
Where do I get a copy of the SAMINC and SAMSYS databases for Sage 300 2016? The Sage support partner who installed our system did not create an additional sample databases.
Run a Change on the main Sage 300 installation, then scroll down and check the sample data box.
Or look in the shared data folder for the folder Samdata. This is the location of the datasets on install. Perhaps they are there already.
