You can use Thunderbird as an email client, it is MAPI.

It's really needed. All other similar software has SMTP and Sage 300 ISV software has it. Add your vote for it:

I absolutely agree with you, this has been a long standing request. But instead Sage spend their time on bringing us useless stuff like 300c.

I think the web screens are a step in the right direction, definitely needs to be browser based in todays environment. However you are right that they need to do some serious updating in this area. Not having smtp is crazy in this day and age.

Just following this up as a client has gone ahead and installed Thunderbird and we are having issues. It's not in the compatibility guide is it?

Thunderbird works very well, we use it where clients do not have Outlook or where they run on Terminal Server.
You may be having MAPI issues (the MS components in the o/s), just google fixing MAPI. A simple test is if you right click any file in Windows Explorer and send to email.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's not typically that I'm asked to use Thunderbird so of course it is not running smoothly. I'm trying to run this on a Windows 2012 R2 Terminal Server - any experience with this? Any tricks? I'm still getting the dreaded "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action". Tried fix mapi and checked the default program. Appreciate any other suggestions (besides use Outlook!)

Thunderbird runs on Win2012R2 TS, no tricks. We use this for many clients who do not use Outlook.

The biggest problem is cleaning up after IT have messed things up. Fixing mapi usually sorts it out.

Are you able to email to a group (multiple email list) using Thunderbird from Sage?
