Uncheck the Print Check box and enter the number.

I've done that in the past, and it works well as long as I still with a typical numbering system. But adding a "dash" or an alphabetical character after it gives me the message it's an invalid cheque number.

I'm wondering if there's something in setup that would allow for alphanumeric cheque numbering instead of just numeric numbering.

So you're running it with Check For Duplicate Numbers deselected?
