For a GL import you only need a couple of fields.

You need a Header and a Detail record, the Detail will have at least 2 lines (presuming you want a balanced entry).

You don't say what format and you don't say what fields YOU require... so I'll assume CSV and the minimum fields.

First you need field names in the file:

"RECTYPE","BATCHID","BTCHENTRY","SRCELEDGER","SRCETYPE","JRNLDESC","DATEENTRY"

"RECTYPE","BATCHNBR","JOURNALID","TRANSNBR","ACCTID","SCURNAMT","TRANSDESC","TRANSREF"

"RECTYPE","BATCHNBR","JOURNALID","TRANSNBR","OPTFIELD","VALUE"

Then the Header record:

1,0,1,"GL","JE","Entry 1",20130930

The the Detail records:

2,0,1,0,"1000",100.00,"Detail line 1","Ref 1"

2,0,1,0,"1001",-100.00,"Detail line 2","Ref 2"

The data needs are very simple - date, GL account and amount.  That's what they are accustomed to getting in Sage PRO.  I will try your model with them and see what pops up in conversation.  

OH...and they'll want to do it in EXCEL...I should have said that in my first EM.  

Redo your export using the Excel format and select the fields that Ettienne suggested and you'll have your template.

Excel is more problematic to create - do they really wanna go that way?

After seeing your earlier posting, I spoke to the third party development team and they absolutely do NOT want to go down the Excel path.  The CFO is still a bit iffy about whether her J/E will be easier in CSV format or EXCEL.  But she's like many CFO's and wedded to Excel at all costs.  I'll see how that goes.

Why does the format matter if it is created by another program? CSV is far easier to create than Excel files, the CFO needs to chill and eat some cake... or whatever CFOs do ;)

I wasn't clear...she is thinking of any J/E that she wants to create herself. Like credit card expense analyses.  But I've got a template from another person out her in the City that we will share with her.

Dont like to always try and sell something but if they want simple ways of getting data into Sage quickly and using the correct logic check out our smartsheets
