2016 Tax Service changes are not safe

Has anyone examined the new Tax Services in 2016?  As far as I can see it will not work properly and is likely to cause misreporting of tax in many regions.

The clearing of tax tracking has been separated to be independent from the Tax Tracking report. Problem example:

  • Run purchase Tax Tracking report to end of October 2015.
  • Save, print, etc.
  • While doing this a late AP/PO invoice is posted dated October 2015.
  • Run the separate process to clear tax tracking to end of October 2015.

The result is that the late invoice never appears on any report.  It wasn't on the tax tracking when printed, but has now been cleared (deleted!!) from tax tracking.

Previously the clearing option at least would clear what was reported.  Now there is no correlation between what has been reported and what is cleared.  Therefore how can we now ask tax tracking to only report on previously unreported transactions?

Further, the 2016 release was supposed to flag reported transactions as reported rather than clear the tax tracking data.  What has been done seems to be the worst of both options.

  • So does anyone have a suggestion on how to report only previously unreported tax details with the 2016 tax tracking?

There are more faults with the Tax Tracking. You can only clear year and period but you can report by either year/period or document date. So how do you clear properly if you report by document date?
Further it appears you can clear (delete) data without even having reported on it. Deeply unsafe.

    I hope I'm wrong ....

    HI Steve
Did you ever get any response from Sage on this?
We have just upgrade a customer from 5.6 to 2017, and the new Clear Tax Tracking doesn't allow them to reconcile by Tax Authority.
So if you have more then one tax authority, with different return dates you cannot clear the any details..

    Hey John,

Don't get me started. I had a kind of conversation on a tech support ticket. They effectively said it's by design. When I pointed out they had broken previous function they acknowledged that, but aren't going to do anything. I think they really struggle with the concept of tax reporting and being able to clear or flag what you have reported - very simple to achieve. They only seem to understand reporting by date or period range. I sometimes wonder if they have anyone with any real world understanding of tax reporting.
