Sounds like failing network hardware.

Which Sage 300 version are you using? Click Help, System Information

Which version and edition of SQL server are you using? Run select @@version in SQL management studio.

The issue is something with our server. It is intermittent, and only lasts 5-10 minutes at a time. With Sage being our most commonly used systems we thought it was the only thing affected. It is also affecting our UPS and Fed Ex integration. Not a Sage issue, sorry guys, and thank you!

It is most likely MS SQL server using all the resources on the server. The problems you describe point to that - seen it hundreds of times.

We have been monitoring the server. The only spikes we see are the usual ones when a query hits it. Is there something else I should be looking for?

I had similar issues with another client this week. It was taking 20 minutes to do one line in a GL journal entry.

They have 10 users and a beefy server - I found they were running SQL express with old SQL drivers on the clients. We installed SQL 2012 and the latest SQL clients and it made a day and night difference. The point is that there are so many variables and too many unknowns in your case. Another speed killer is antivirus as well as incorrect/non existent paths in Customization Directories and all that Jay said.
