We could use Extender to validate the quantity committed before they click "post" to ensure an error condition does not occur during the posting process.

I think the reason it is happening (and you should be able to replicate this), is at the time user one commits the stock - but before they click post, a second user commits stock and/or ships the same item.  The committed quantity / quantity on hand need not go below zero - but just needs to change by another user in the time between committing the stock and posting the order.

I have not heard of a product update that corrects this.

I will suggest that to my client, however, they expect this to be a standard feature of the product and they think there is an issue and there should be a fix for this.

Agreed.  It would be a work around until Sage fixes it.  Have you reported it to them ?

it's very likely that they are using an item number more than once.  so a single instance of it would not be over-committed, but both would and it runs into the error when you hit post.  Happens to our team all the time
