Sage 500 7.3 GL Acct Import for Inactive Accounts

We are still on 7.3 of Sage 500. I have a boatload of new Natural Accounts/GL Accounts, and they all need to be inactive for the remainder of this year, and then all of them activated when the new year 2015 begins. Is there a way to import the new accounts as inactive. Or, even better, would be a way to Activate and Inactivate the selected accounts in bulk. Thanks.

Hi Stephen,

Let's see if anyone else will chime in on the request. I looked at the Natural Accounts Record Layout (can be found in the Help Center) that you can define the "effective from date" and the "effective to date" when importing the Natural accounts.

Effective dates would probably work for you. There is also a Status flag in tglNaturalAcct. You could set it to equal to 2 (Inactive) and then set it to 1 when appropriate. It is very easy in SQL but there are probably 2 steps, 1 to import the Active/Inactive table then 2 to write the SQL statement. If you don't know how to do these 2 steps I'd just do the dates, the SQL while easy is also very dangerous.

A third option would be to use DataPorter if you own that module. I just confirmed that you can easily update a list of Accounts in Excel to Inactive or back to Active using DataPorter
