BIE Export to Excel Template - Pivot table is lost

Starting with version 2013 (possibly earlier), and persisting through the latest MU of version 2014, we seem to have lost a valuable feature in BIE.

In the past, one can create an Excel "template" file that uses the data exported by BIE in the SourceInfo named range and have subsequent exports automatically update the "template".   For example,

1. Export BIE data to Excel

2. Add a pivot table to that Excel book

3. Save the file

4. Export BIE data to "Excel Template" and select the file created earlier

5. The pivot table would automatically be updated with fresh data.

Starting Version 2013, when you do #4, the pivot table is converted into values and the ability to pivot is gone.

I couldn't find anything about this in the KB.   This would seem like a major loss of functionality to me.    Is it a known bug?  Or is there a new procedure to get this to work?

Thanks,

John

    John,

Is it possible that you upgraded Excel at the same time that you upgraded to Sage 500 2013 and that the issue is more with Excel than with Sage 500 2013? I know that Excel made a big change between 2010 and 2013 in that each new spreadsheet opens in a new instance of Excel and this broke DataPorter (which Sage fixed in an update). It might have had a similar impact on the feature that you are talking about.

    Hi Tim,

So are you saying that this feature works for you on Sage 500 2013 and 2014?

I have tried it with both Excel 2010 and 2013 and got the same result.

    Thanks,

    John
