Extract Data from Sage for Record Retention and create Read Only Access in Sage 500 9.13 for accounting

We have acquired a company that has Sage 500 9.13 for accounting that has been discontinued support since 2004. This system was being used as of last month.

1. We need to be able to extract data from this system.  Is it possible to export data from this system in a new version of Sage?

2. We have two licenses for the users that have left the company. Can we create new user profile with read-only access to the data for inquiry only purpose?

3. Is there option to turn on logging in this version of Sage?

This system exists in France and not in the US. We have couple business users in the US that need access to this system.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lionel

  • Are you sure it's MAS 500 9.13? I am not aware of any version of Sage 500 with that version number. If it is Sage 500 then it's possible to export out, there are several tools to do so, depending on how old your version is. Honestly based on what you've described this is not Sage 500. I know Sage had several versions of software with similar names based out of the UK. I would try to find a long time Sage reseller in France and ask them about the system. Chances are they will know what software it is. Good luck.

I agree with John's comments. This actually sounds like the Sage product referred to as Line 500 that was used in Europe and other International countries but not in the US. They are 2 different products.

Thanks for responding back to my request for information. I was given this information by our IT head in France. We had an external IT consultant that supported this version of Sage but he retired end of last year and now we are moving to SAP and need to get the data out for record retention and historical inquiry purpose only.

Do you have information to answer the following questions?
    1. Can you assign a read only user profile in Sage 500?
    2. Also, can you enable logging for audit reasons to ensure our users using the system don't make any changes in the system ?
    3. What tool can I use to export out the data?

    Thanks,
    Lionel

    1. Yes
    2. If it is read only then this would not be necessary
    3. The database, again assuming this is Sage 500 shown here www.rklesolutions.com/.../, then this is a SQL Server database so you could use SQL Server or any other tool that can connect using an ODBC driver to SQL Server

I am still not certain this is Sage 500 as the version you mention does not make sense.

Here are the 2 different products.
    - Sage 500 www.sage.com/.../sage-500-erp
    - Line 500 now called Sage 1000 is the product I mentioned earlier www.sage.co.uk/.../sage-1000

    Lionel,
Since it seems you may be using Sage Line 500 – I have asked that product team to reach out to you directly to assure you have the correct information.

The Screenshot provided below shows the Product info that I have received from the user in France. Can anyone tell what Product line this is?

    Thanks,

    Lionel

It does not appear to have saved the screenshot you attached in the response. Maybe Zenon can access it but I do not see anything.
  • I just added the screenshot to Lionel's post. It appears to be Sage 500 developed in France. We have asked French team to assist Lionel. Help is on the way.
