Pointing your workstations to a new server - it's easier than you think!

1 minute read time.

With ever-changing technology businesses have to look at updating their servers every now and again.  During this process, there are many things to consider, including your Sage 50 installation. In this blog post, we're going to break down how users can smoothly make the transition.

Always be sure that you've made a backup of your company file prior to making any changes to your installation.

Sage 50—U.S. Edition does not need to be uninstalled from an old server before that machine can be used as a workstation on the new server. It can be converted to a workstation using the following steps:

  1. Map the workstation (old server) to the new server
    1. Windows 10
      1. Hold down the Windows Key +E, and select This PC
      2. Click Map Network Drive along the top ribbon menu
      3. Select the desired drive letter, and then hit Browse
      4. Choose the correct machine to map to along with the shared folder to map to, and hit OK
      5. Choose Finish
    2. For assistance with Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista/Xp: view article 'How to map a network drive - ID 10213'

      1. Create a mapped drive to the shared folder for Sage 50—U.S. Edition to the new server.
      1. Browse to the location C:\Program Files\Common Files\Peach and open PeachtreeXXX.ini.
      2. Update the Datapath= to the new mapped directory.
      3. Select FileSave, and close the INI file.
    • Section II: Use for 64bit machines
      1. Create a mapped drive to the shared folder for Sage 50 to the new server.
      2. Browse to the location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Peach and open PeachtreeXXX.ini.
      3. Update the Datapath= to the new mapped directory.
      4. Select FileSave, and close the INI file.

3. Verify that you can now open the program

4. Verify the companies that open on the workstation (old server) are using the new mapped drive to the server.
