Import not appearing on a day

SUGGESTED

Hi - Thank you in advance for your time! I imported some data last night (general journal) using a date of 4/30/2017, but the data appears to be sitting in between 12/31/2014 and 1/1/2015 (my ending balance on 12/31/14 and beginning balance on 1/1/15 are different by the exact amount of the import). Has anyone else ever had something similar happen? If I could get at the data, I'd delete it out of there, but I'm unable to even view where it is, since it doesn't appear to have occurred on a day. The reference number that I used also doesn't appear to be present (not found when I use the find function). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to view/delete this data? I have reviewed every general journal transaction from 12/1/2014-1/31/2015 to no avail. I'm unsure where to continue looking. Thanks again!

I have received what I needed by finding the transaction in the Audit Trail Report (Reports & Forms, Company Reports, Audit Trail Report). It uploaded as 4/28/1955!?!?!?!

It's impossible to say what happened. Examining the import file might reveal the source of the problem. I can assure you it's not the normal result when importing. There's no way to delete the transaction since it's in a closed year (I'm assuming you're not catching up on 62 years of bookkeeping) so, unless you can restore a backup from before the import, the only option is to import a reversing entry dated 4/28/1955.

The important lesson here is that you should always make a backup before importing because there's no way to undo an import.

Thank you! I am currently debating between the restore (it was backed up, so I/we would only have to redo today's activity) and the offsetting entry. Do you foresee any downside to the offsetting entry? The only thing that concerns me with the offsetting entry is how it's currently presenting itself between 2014 and 2015 in the reporting. However, it shows 4/28/1955 on the entry, so it SHOULD work. Thanks again for your response!

You could try running Data Verification from the File menu to see if that cleans up the balances. If it doesn't then I try importing a reversing entry. If that doesn't give you the result you want, then restore your backup. But I wouldn't redo a day's work without at least trying the reversing entry first.

Thank you. Since I'm considering restoring, why wouldn't I at least attempt a quicker solution first? The restore is always still available. Thank you for the additional tip as well as the perspective.
