Two files missing from company AUDITTER.DAT and JRNLHDR.DAT

SOLVED

Hello There,

We are using Sage 50 Accounting in a Networked environment. There is one server and five client computers.

We were working on a company we created four months ago. Yesterday the application freeze on all client computers. After restarting the server and client computers we have found out all files in the company folder are deleted. We used a recovery software to undelete the files. All files except Audittr.dat and Jrnlhdr.dat have been recovered. When we try to open then company the following message appears,
"Could not find file JRNLHDR.DAT . Do you want to create a brand new, empty file?" Yes, No, Cancel. When you select one of the options another similar message for AUDITTR.DAT will appear and open the company.

After the company is open we are not able to see our data in General Ledger even though we see trail balance and ending balance values correctly. Can you please help us how we can regenerate or recover these two missing files?

Thank you

I would go back and restore the last good backup or send your data to a data repair specialist. https://www.bestbusinessstrategies.com/Sage50-Data-Repair.htm

You can get by without the AUDITTR.DAT file, but the JRNLHDR.DAT is essential. The JRNLHDR.DAT file holds the header information (invoice #, date, cust/vendor ID, etc) for every transaction entered. It works in conjunction with JRNLROW.DAT which holds the detail lines for each transaction. If you can't recover the JRNLHDR.DAT file then you need to restore a backup of the entire company database. If you don't have a regular backup plan in place, then search your hard drive for files with a .PTB extension. Those are backups made by Sage 50.

Do not try to restore just the JRNLHDR.DAT file from a backup. That will cause new problems.

If you don't have a backup to restore your best option is to use the data you do have to start a new Sage 50 company. You can export customers, vendors, etc. from the damaged company and import them into the new company. Then you'll need to manually enter beginning balances. Look up "Rebuild" in the help for detailed instructions. This can be a difficult process. If you need help with it, contact a certified consultant such as me or Best Business Strategies.
