If you used the Beginning Balance window in Maintain Inventory Items, that is not supposed to post to the general ledger. (The same is true of beginning balances for customers and vendors).

To set up your GL beginning balances you can either go to Maintain Chart Of Accounts and click the Account Beginning Balances button, or post a general journal entry. I prefer using a general journal entry, but either method will work.
