Sage will be providing the ability to produce the 1099-NEC for both payroll and non-payroll customers.  We are working on the announcement with details on how this will work for both.  Details will also be available on the Year End support pages soon.  We do recommend that payroll users upgrade to the latest release (2021.1.1) to be ready for Tax updates being released this month and in January.  For non-payroll customers, the IRS requires their scannable form for Copy A, which can be ordered directly from the IRS website or from our Checks and Forms service.

I checked for updates...says I am current... 20210102 is the installed tax service.   NO NEC info or forms available

To answer the question about whether or not Sage will be changing the Maintain Vendor screen to accommodate the 1099 Type "1099-NEC", the answer is No. You will need to have all of your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC Vendors selected with the 1099 Type "Independent Contractor," and then you will need to selectively choose your Vendors to printing either 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC; unfortunately, you can only filter the printing of these forms by Vendor Name Range. It would have been ideal if the filter of Vendor Type or another field, i.e. Custom Field, could have been used for filtering. If you are not a payroll subscriber, you will not have access to the Aatrix 1099-NEC forms available via the Payroll Tax Forms selector and will need to download and utilize the .FRM 1099-NEC files in Sage Knowledgebase 108215: 1099-NEC Filing Forms for use with IRS scannable fileable forms or in Sage Knowledgebase article 108221: 1099-NEC Filing Forms for use with Sage Checks & Forms. 

If you are a payroll subscriber and still do not see the 1099-NEC forms when opening the Payroll Tax Forms selector (where you would normally open the 941 form for example), please contact support so they can assist getting you updated.     

I do not see the option within the vendor 1099 settings to choose the NEC form. Also, the forms I just added to the company forms folder are only singles and not doubles. Will that option be available or will I have to purchase twice as many forms as I actually need?

The format called 2020 Form 1099-NEC Preprinted will print 2 forms per page. I have personally tested this, with my data, plus with several other clients. With regards to your question about an option within the Vendor 1099 Settings to choose the NEC Form, Sage did not make that change to the software.
