The beginning balance for one of my G/L accounts in a prior year just disappeared for no reason. The asset account balance did not carry forward from Dec. '18 to Jan. '19. Anyone ever had this happen before ? How do we fix it ?

There are two times when we have seen this happen. The first is if the account was classified as either an Income, COGS, Expense, or Equity-Gets Closed Account, prior to the year end closing. The second is if there is an addition issue on the Trial Balance (internal issue), and if that is the case, there is a set of specific Integrity Check processes that we run from Period 1, after backing up. I have seen this. We did a general ledger journal entry and pushed it into 2019.

If I do an entry to re-establish the asset account balance, the other side of the entry keeps me out of balance on my Balance Sheet. We only have 2020 and 2021 open in Sage, we can't access 2019. Any ideas ?
Since you can't make a one sided entry, even if you import it into 2019, the problem has to be dealt with in the open two years. I don't want to give you specific instructions until I've seen your data, which we can log in with you remotely and do. Please reach out to us at https://pcosupport.com for additional assistance.
Are your retained earnings also out of balance?
No, I just need that beginning balance re-established and everything will be in balance.
Make a backup first. Go to Maintain Chart of Accounts, Click Account Beginning Balances. Choose period before 1/1/19. Enter the amount missing. The total for the 2 columns should match when you are done, if they do not match change the amount in retained earnings so the 2 totals match.
I was thinking that too Kim, but he said his Retained Earnings total is correct. I am thinking this would need a data repair.
