Sage 50 Moving Sage 50 data folder "peachtreedata" to a different Hard Drive due to hard drive failure

SOLVED

Hello Everyone,

The actual hard drive where Sage 50 data resides, is failing. Therefore I need to move or copy Sage 50 database "Company" to a different hard drive located on the same server computer. What would be the best way of achieving that? I read about creating a backup from inside sage 50, then restoring it as a new company, the problem is that it doesn't let me create a new directory on a different hard drive that way. Can I just copy the whole "peachtreedata" which has company folders inside it,  from one hard drive to the other? right click copy and paste, or Robocopy?

Or, do I have to uninstall sage 50 on the server, then reinstall it and right there specify new data folder on a different hard drive. Then create a new blank company and restore using (previously backed up file) or just point it to the "Copied" location having previously copied the "peachtreedata' folder.

What should be the recommended procedure, more safe with better data integrity? Any feedback? Other options? Anything?

Please, Anyone? What is a good way of moving data files from one hard drive to another? Reinstallation required or not? If you have any info, please share.

Very much Appreciated!

There's a knowledgebase article How to create a new data path with the Database Repair Utility that explains how to create a new datapath and move your data. But it may be easier to just uninstall and reinstall, then either copy or restore you data and forms to the new location.

If you choose to reinstall, you can download the latest installer at https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/microsites/msbrowse.do?UMBrowseSelection=SG_SAGE50_U_S_EDITION_1# so you don't have to reload updates after installing.

If you share the new folder with the same share name as the previous folder you shouldn't have to anything at the workstations.

    Thank You So Much Stephen!!!

Sadly, I was trying to get the "Database Repair Utility R2017" but I cannot seem to be able to find the download, and after calling the support, I was told that Sage cannot give it to me because it is a legacy product.... I wonder if there is anyone who really has it though.

As for the Download, Im running Sage 50  2017v2, which also I don't really know how I can download. I don't have the license for 2021 version of sage 50, only 2017.

But I think the approach of uninstalling sage from the server, reinstalling it and specifying the new path found on the new drive may work. Then either "restoring it from previously taken backup" or pasting the company folder into sage on the new hard drive. Don't know which would be cleaner or more assured way though....

Stephen, what do you mean by "If you share the new folder with the same share name as the previous folder you shouldn't have to anything at the workstations."

Are you saying I don't have to reinstall, just copy company folder and paste into new hard drive, but keep same folder name?

    Thank You so much!!!

Since you're on 2017v2, don't worry about the downloads. Just reinstall using the files you already have and and if your installer is 2017.0 or 2017.1 make sure you also run the 2017.2 update from your Updates folder.

Regarding the workstations, let's say the current data path on the server is D:\Sage\Peachtree\Company and the Peachtree folder is shared using the share name "Peachtree." Then you reinstall on the server and the new data path at the server is E:\Sage\Peachtree\Company. If you stop sharing the Peachtree folder on the D drive and share the new Peachtree folder on the E drive using the share name "Peachtree", then from the workstation's perspective the data will still be located at \\ServerName\Peachtree. That means your drive mapping will still be good and you don't have to redo anything at the workstation.

Simplest option would be to backup and restore
