Did you already purchase Sage 2023 because of the "third-party database" issue and are disappointed that the 50% off deal only showed up today?

Survey:  Did you already purchase Sage 2023 because of the "third-party database" issue and are disappointed that the 50% off deal only showed up today - seven months after the issue arose?

We Did.

Unless we missed an email somewhere along the way...we feel like we got Sage'd again.

It has been out there.  We have been offering it all along.  You do have to qualify.

I'm just realizing, it's only if you migrate to the subscription model.  Not jumping on the SAAS wagon.  Have they not offered this type of 50% off to migrate to subscription for years??  TBH, this is kind of extra disappointing - using the broken promise of "perpetual" software to create recurring revenue.

If they sold something that was to be "forever" - and then it wasn't (regardless of reason) within four years - it would not be a stretch to offer some sort of path to honor the commitment that was made when the software was originally purchased.  (even if there was some cost involved to the user)

Are you aware of any type of sorry-about-that deals on the perpetual version?

No, they were only offering the discount to NEW users on a continuous basis.   The existing user discount changes monthly.  It does not always include the same customer base.

Sage does not have any deals on Traditional software.  The only deals available on Traditional are those that the reseller offers you.  It is us giving up our commission!!

    Kind regards,

    Shirley

Anyone can get the saas version for 40% off first year right now....so they were offering an extra 10% suggesting that our 2018 quantum was going to make big problems for us....the whole "not our fault" messaging doesn't ring well with us..

No comment.  You asked a question and I answered it.  I am not here to argue.

I understand the Pervasive engine that runs these programs is not going to be around and your program will not activate if you are on 2013 - 2019.

You may choose to upgrade or let your program die.   Nothing ever lasts forever.  Maybe you could be thankful that you got 5 years out of the program and didn't have to update every year!

    God bless you Awizz.

No argument..just a discussion.  You're here to sell, understood.

I suppose we had an expectation set when we got 10+ years out of 2006!

It's just "different" than it was in the good ole Peachtree days Disappointed

Systems change and technology is moving very fast.  We (Everyone) are constantly fighting hackers and Microsoft throws out operating updates constantly.  Unless you live in a bubble, you are exposed and Sage needs to keep on top of the situation.  That all costs money.

    Kind regards,

    Shirley

  • Hi Awizz,

Sorry to hear that you missed the promotion. I've forwarded your post and comments onto the team for review and follow up should there be an opportunity for a discount still. Sage 50 licenses can either be subscription or perpetual.

With a non-subscription service plan (like a payroll-only plan, where you get access to the module), you normally pay one time to get entitled for a period of time. After the service plan expires, if you don't renew it, the perpetual user license will continue to allow you access to basic accounting functionalities in the software which do not require an active service plan.

Sage has transitioned to providing Software As A Service) payable either monthly or yearly in order for full access to the product to continue. Certain features (such as access to Remote Data Access, creating credit or debit notes) are only available to subscribers of Sage 50cloud.

As mentioned by cyber security and constantly evolving operating systems challenge the older concept of having software licenses that can be used forever. We've had to transition to supporting, in general, only the latest version year plus one year back of our software solutions.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

Hi -Didn't miss any promotion - wasn't offered one until 8 months after the issue first arose, so had to go buy 2022 instead.  Notwithstanding, the promotion was only if transitioning to Saas Sage.  Understood regarding evolving ecosystems and the need for support plans and updates.  Simply, the old-model "purchase" was cost-effective if you could get 4-5 years from it. (got 12 from our 2006!) Now the pricing at retail of $400 or so per-seat vs. $200 or so for subscription seems to break even only if you can get 2+ years from the purchase - which will seemingly be a challenge going forward.  Since in-a-box retail wouldn't really work well for selling subscriptions..I suppose to sell at retail and then transition seats to Saas is a good working model for you guys...things change, understood...Maybe it's just time for a new word LOL

    Definition of perpetual

1a : continuing forever : everlasting perpetual motion
b(1) : valid for all time a perpetual right
    (2) : holding something (such as an office) for life or for an unlimited time
