Best way is to enter an item into Sage. All item types have different column criteria l so stock will be different than assembly, etc. Export that item with headers so you can review what Sage requires in those columns then make your columns on your import match.  Assembly item are more difficult because they require a bill of material when must already exist as am item in Sage, so import assembly items last.

There are around thousand items have to input into Sage thus enter all items manually is not the best way that’s why I’m looking for an import function and also what I need to input are just item code, description, level 1 (pricing) and minimum hand on, its not assembly at all and I’m not sure whether the import template is required to have header or not? 

The import template is not required, but to import data the way Sage requires, I find the header very useful.  You may only need certain fields of data for your import, but Sage has strict rules of required fields in specific columns to import correctly.

Templates vary depending on the item type your importing, so that is why I suggested to enter an Item such as stock, export it as a saved Stock and use it as your import template. Do the same with Assembly type items.

Kim, I'm new to Sage 50 and having similar difficulty with templates.  I understand the approach of entering a stock item manually, however, when you stated to then export it as a saved stock item as the basis for an import template, from where are you doing that export, can you elaborate on those steps?  

After you manually enter a "Stock" item and save it. Go to export in Sage and export that specific item by filtering by that item ID and under the Options Tab check to include headings and save that export to where you want to create the csv file.  In Windows explorer browse to that csv file and open it with Excel.  This will show you the columns and the data you need to import your data.  Some of these fields are not required and you can research that information in the Sage program, Help, Import/Export Inventory Items, but if you choose to omit thoses columns then you will have to uncheck   the "Show" box for that field then save that template so you don't have to keep
