State Filing Status

SUGGESTED

An employee turned in an L4 form,  Single Status and a 1 in Block A for state withholding in Louisiana.

The Sage based article states that Special B should be chosen as the State filing Status. However, it also states in section IV that Single should be chosen and the Number of allowances the employee writes in Block A  should be put in state allowances section.

Both calculate differently, which is correct?

I would appreciate any feedback. No on seems to know the answer

The L4 for Louisiana State Withholding was turned in with "S" and "1" exemption. Should Special B be chosen as the filing status or Single and 1 in the allowance field?

Section I: Instructions for Special A and Special B status

For proper withholding use a filing status of Single or Married
Alternatively, you may use filing statuses of Special A, B and C:

    • If the employee is single and Block A on the L-4 is 0, use Special A
    • If the employee is single and Block A on the L-4 is 1, use Special B
    • If the employee is married and Block A on the L-4 is 2, use Special C.
    • Enter the number of dependents in the Allowances box.

Section II: Instructions for Special C status

For proper withholding use a filing status of Single or Married

    • Enter the number of allowances claimed for self and spouse from Block A of the LA Form L-4 under Maintain, Employees in the state Allowances box.
    • Enter the total number of dependents and any additional allowances from Block B of the Form L-4 in the Special 2 Allowances box.

Can you please explain the difference (in your system) of Special B Filing Status and Filing Status of Single with 1 allowance? Or is this the same thing?
