Bar Coding Inventory

We currently use Sage 50 US and are looking at bar coding our inventory for a more accurate and efficient method of managing our inventory. We are a small company of 20 employees so I am not looking at anything more than 1 or 2 users.  I have not been able to locate a system to do this without picking up odds and ends and putting our own system together.  I have found bar code printers and bar code creating programs.  I still have not been able to find a bar code scanner, that ideally we would scan our inventory and then transfer the information to Sage 50.  Is there such a system out there, or has anyone been able to implement a bar code system on their own?

    Hi Merianna

It would  suggest contacting Sage directly  this Community only details all the product information on Sage Intelligence Reporting.

You could also have a look or contact the Sage Inventory Advisor team, they may be able to point you in the right direction

  • Agreed! All the company's that offer barcoding come with a huge platform that is overkill. Plus, you basically have to learn how to use a new system since everything goes through their software. And, its not cheap, limited tutorials and often no ability to do a trial. Most do not have an installation technician and only limited tech support and high annual fees. They don't offer modules, you have to get the whole package.

I have done so many demos and ultimately none of them can do assemblies and order fulfillment barcoding. It's one or the other. You can download a barcode font to insert into a sales order form but you have to be a rocket scientist with the patience and speed of a sloth. The tease of the ability is on the maintain inventory with the UPC code, but it is useless.

The Intelligence Reports are a possibility, but who has the time. They have free templates, and it would be nice if they could include some template download that could let us run a report with Excel. Excel does produce barcoding.

I've looked at plugins for our website to deal with order fulfillment for the cost of $60. With the way the people are doing more and more sales from home, the internet will most likely be way more nimble and leave Sage in the dust with offering affordable accounting systems that include barcoding all run through the website.

Also, Quick Books Intuit offers barcoding, so if you are not married to Sage, it's worth a look. I've spent well over a year talking with their marketplace 3rd party company's and I've also had IT people look at setting up a system and everyone comes back frustrated.

One company I have considered is Bartender and they allow you a free trial. It hooks up to your database. It is a very large program, so you have to have computers that can handle it. Good luck, and I hope you find some answers and my experiences have helped you from going through the same agonizing experiences and colossal waste of time.
