That is correct.  When you select “Current pay period” you will always get the last batch of checks you printed.  Unfortunately, the title for the Reporting Period options may cause some confusion.  Let me try and clarify below.  The Payroll Register has several options for Reporting Period.  See my explanation below for Current Calculation vs Current pay period to help explain the differences.

Current Calculation:

If you want the report to reflect based on the Automatic Payroll Calculation on your current time cards you are processing, you will want to select “Current calculation”.  (Traditionally, ‘Current calculation’ should be the default when running the Automatic Payroll Calculation.  If a custom report is selected instead, the system remembers the report you ran last and uses it the next time.  If that occurs, you will want to change the report selection to the appropriate settings.) The system retains this information until you print the checks.

Note:  There are no dates when the report is ran for “current calculation”.  Dates for Pay Periods and the check date are not entered until you go to PR, Processing, Prink Checks and print the checks that you just calculated.

Current pay period:

All the other options in Reporting Period for the Payroll Register are to run for past checks that were already printed/posted.  If you select “Current pay period”, a report generates based on your last batch of checks you printed.  That is technically your “current” check batch, until you do your next payroll.   These reports will display dates based on what was selected when the check was printed.

It was good talking with you on the case/appointment you also made regarding this issue.  I will update the article(s) to include the additional information we discovered.  When your company had to reprint a check using the original / prior check date, since that was your last check batch, the system considers THAT date 4/1 and all the other checks previous printed on that date.  I am glad we were able to figure it out!
