We need to put in a new computer to replace an ageing machine running Windows Server 2008. Our IT person is recommending just putting in a Windows 10 machine and connecting the workstations to it. We only have 5 users. Will this work?

We have run our Businessworks system this way for many years. The program resides on the computer I use daily and the other 2 users access the data through our basic network. We are currently running Windows 11 on the "server" computer but did use Windows 10 in the past. Just be sure when doing updates to BW that you update on both the server computer and those of the other users.
Thank you
Hi,
The answer depends on product type you have installed. To verify your product type go to Utilities, Registration Information, Network Registration and look to the left of the OK button. If it says NT Server you must install on a Windows Server operating system. If it says Workgroup you can install on a Windows 10 or 11 Professional computer.
I will check, thanks for the heads up
If you downgrade from a "server" OS with 5 to 6 users you will run into a file locks problem. Microsoft reduced the file locks ability in Windows NT Workstation 4 and all windows versions forward (95, 98, vista, 7,8,10,11)
Get server 2022 or server 2019
