How to upgrade BW 2011 to BW 2013 when BW 2013 is installed on new server?

SUGGESTED

Hello all, I'm a newby to Sage.  I am helping a small business with a server replacement. They are currently using BW 2011 on an old 2003 SBS box.  I need to move them to a new 2012-R2 server running BW 2013.  The database update tool included with the 2013 installer does not seem to accept the .exe file in 2011.

FYI, I have searched the knowledge bases and forums, but my search terms by there very nature are generic, so the results have been to numerous for real evaluation.

So I ran across Article 17292.  I have reached the step in the process of restoring the databases (starting with the system database).  The issue I have run into is that the restore utility doesn't let me select any of the .zip files created with BW 2011.  Am I missing something?

You found the correct article for moving to a new server or location. You have to open the folder in the left screen until the *.zip files appear in the right window. Then select the correct zip file to restore. Once you restore the System backup, it will restore the users rights within Sage BusinessWorks. One of the Related Resources in Article 17292 is "How to restore company data and system files."

Please note that once you successfully restore the version 2011 data files, you will need to run database unpdate found in Start, Programs, Sage BusinessWorks, Database Update.

Once that is complete you can install service pack 10. Then on each workstation you will go to add/remove programs and remove Sage BusinessWorks Client. Then run the Client Setup. Instructions are also included in Article 17292.
