Do custom worksheets export to a Excel 2010/2013 worksheet? I cannot get it to work.

SOLVED

I have Order Entry custom worksheets. Stand alone, I am unable to set them up to port the data to an XLSM (Excel 2010) workbook and sheet. In fact, the top of the BW Edit template workbook browse says *.XLS . So, I just want to confirm you cannot use the Custom Worksheets to update data into an XLSM workbook worksheet stand-alone. I know there is a work around. Here is mine. I create a file and save as an 97 excel document (eg. ABC.XLS) and then I create an excel 2010 file in the same folder (eg ABC.XLSM). In BW, I chose the XLS spreadsheet and the name of the worksheet. When I am ready to run my exports as I'll call them, I open the XLSM, go into my BW Custom Worksheets and run them and magic, they update the worksheets in my XLSM no problem. Was hoping to find a way to skip the work around. I can live with it though.

However, the other problem I have is this work around only works if the files are on my local drive. If I create the excel files on a network drive and then go into BW edit template, browse, I can find the path to the XLS, but BW will sit there forever and ever with the hour glass waiting for the list of worksheets to appear in the drop down, but it never does. I have to end up killing the task. As far as I know there are no rights issues on the path I am creating the files (and I have tried several). Anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Thank you.

Weird thing occurred when I tried your problem in BW 2013 to Excel 2013 32bit.

Using the DEMO company, I created a custom worksheet to export to excel spreadsheet. I wanted to place the data in the same file every time so I created a sheet TESTER1.XLSX , Sheet1,2,3 (the tabs name), data was to be placed on sheet2

When I processed the export, Excel opened but open a BOOK1.XLSX, sheet1 and my data then I closed excel. (WRONG FILE !)

then I Created a SHEET called TESTER1.XLS, then ran the EXPORT, it opened TESTER1.XLSX, SHEET2 and placed my data in the correct place.

I then proceed to delete TESTER1.XLS and ran the export again, back to BOOK2, sheet1 (WRONG FILE)

2nd thing, The file dialog box for the WORKBOOK and Sheet selection in BW, looks as if it is from Office 97

3rd thing, Then I placed TESTER1.XLSX on my network folder and then proceeded to change the EXPORT to reference the new location, and the dialog box will change to a MAPPED drive, and shows the contents of the folder, but once a file is chosen then TASK0066.EXE freezes, and the worksheet drop down is blank.

It did not matter if the File was XLS or XLSX type on the network folder, it crashed TASK0066.exe i have tried both.

Yes, very frustrating. And, if anyone is wondering why not just do a Save As XLS and continue, it's because I use features and formulas that are not backward compatible in my file. Meaning, there are calculations and the like that I can do in XLSX or an XLSM, but do not work in the prior versions of Excel.

Got it. My personal machine is 64-bit. And, our network is virtual which I would assume is not supported as well. Add to the enhancement requests as again I would assume most O/S these days in a business environment are 64-bit... Thank you for answering my question. I appreciate it.

That's why I tried to duplicate your problem, knowing the version of Office I run (32bit). and still created the problem. I have a domain and network shares.

If you open EXCEL and choose the FILE ribbon and then HELP, in the right section you can see what version of Excel your running.
If I remember my training for Office 2010, you had to run Office SETUP with a flag to force a 64bit install

    mine says 14.0.7151.5001 (32bit)
