Can the cost unit desc be changed in the standard category setup?

I need to change the cost unit description to only be 4 characters so that estimates will import from SAGE Estimating 16.11. In Estimating you are limited to only 4 characters so i can not change it here.  For Labor category the unit cost desc is HOURS and it can only be 4 characters for my estimate to import.  I realize I can set the JC import settings to "Reject if different Cost Unit Description" but I am being advised against doing this since it would allow errors to pass through.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    I found this article but it does not have the option to change it on the Standard Categories which would then not make it necessary to change per job. This would be a much better solution than having to do it on each job. I can't make the change in Estimating due to the field limitation of 4 characters.

    Changing it in the Standard Categories only affects new Job-Cost Code-Categories setup after you've made the change. When you import an estimate, it can automatically setup your Cost Codes and Categories, copying the settings from the Standard Cateogories. If you've already manually entered the Cost Codes and Categories for the job in question, then you need to change the settings on that specific job. Changing the Standard Category settings or cost unit descriptions does not change existing job setups.

    One option is to edit the import file after it's created. The import file is CSV file. You can do a "search and replace" on the CSV file using a text editor such as Notepad to change the "cost unit description" before you import It to JC to match the descriptions you use in JC. That allows you to overcome the 4-character limitation.

    You can also use ODBC to easily update the cost unit description on existing jobs if you're familiar with Microsoft Access.

    Thanks so much Art! We have only imported a test job and had to do the changing to the unit descriptions at the job level in order for the import to be successful. I am going to change at the Standard Category settings level. Surely, the unit description change should not have any impact on existing jobs but will be used on new jobs that are imported. Thanks again!
