The supported versions for filing 2018 tax forms will be 17.1 Rev 8 and 18.1 Rev 5, which will be released later this year. These versions are guaranteed me government compliance requirements.

So companies in the past have been able to file the forms using an unsupported version, however there may be forms (many forms are not finalized yet) that in order to process correctly will require that you upgrade.

We are recommend that everyone prepare to install one of the supported versions prior to filing the tax forms.

As for as the Payroll tax update, that does not require you to upgrade your version. You can update your taxes in version 16.1 and start processing your 2019 payroll.
