I doubt this will help, but...we have made a few designs that will hang if we save them in Excel format.  However, we have found a work-a-round.  Print preview and then save in Excel, or print to .prn file and then open the .prn file and save to Excel.

Have you tried an ODBC connector directly to Excel?  This is how we extract most of our data, although we do not have multiple entities.
