Certified Payroll

Trying to print certified payroll to .xls file.  It won't complete, saying there's a printer error.  Need this feature so we can upload to IDOL (Illinois).  Can't get a response from Sage (first asked May 18) so hoping for some answers here.  Is there a toggle or something somewhere that we're missing??

    Hi Ambyr,

Please be advised that while this will work, if the report is not specifically designed to be printed to Excel, it will most likely have significant formatting errors which may make it illegible.  If you need help formatting it, feel free to reach out as we create reports like this regularly.

That being said, see the below options.

    For Report Designer reports:

    1. In the Print Selection dialog box, click [Printer Setup].

    2. Check "Print to file."

    3. Click [Select File].

    4. Set the save location where you want the file to be created.

    5. Enter a "File name" in the appropriate field and select "Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls)" in the "Save as type" dropdown.

    6. Click [Save], then [OK], then [Start].

    For Crystal Reports:

You can follow the steps above OR

    1. In the Print Selection dialog box, click [Print Preview].

    2. In the top left corner of the preview screen, click the red arrow icon (Export Main Report).

    3. Set the save location where you want the file to be created.

    4. Enter a "File name" in the appropriate field and select "Microsoft Excel (*.xls)" in the "Save as type" dropdown.

    5. Click [Save], then [Close], then [Cancel].

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ambyr,

If you are receiving a printing error, it is likely you are having a problem with your TS PDF Generator printer object.  This would be a machine specific issue and hopefully you would be able to print to .xls from a different computer.  I have also seen where a user is able to save to .xls to a local drive, but not to a network location, so I would test that out as well - this appears to be a permissions issue, but I have not been able to confirm that yet.

Generally, you can reinstall your TS PDF Generator printer object to fix common "printer errors" by following Option 4 of this Sage Knowledgebase Article.

You can also reach out to me directly if you would like direct assistance.

Thanks John - unfortunately, when we save to a .xls file and [Start], nothing happens - other than the error message.  It saves fine to all other options - .txt, .pdf, etc.  Just not the one we need.

Thanks Todd - can't print to .xls from any machine.  We even called in our IT people and it's definitely an issue in Sage.  Talked to someone with Sage on Monday afternoon, he's still encouraging us to use Aatrix, even though it's definitely not what we need.  We need .xls.  We have tried saving to a network folder, our desktop, and our personal folders.  Nothing works.  It let's us go through everything, then when we press [Start], it just dies - goes nowhere.

We can print .pdf, save as .txt - everything except .xls.

It sounds like you may have a 64-bit version of Excel installed.  If that is the case, you will need to uninstall the 64-bit version of Excel (Microsoft Office) and install the 32-bit version.  You may need to then reinstall Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate to have the integration configured properly.

If you can save to .txt, you can open a .txt file with Excel.  It requires a little work to get it formatted, but it's workable.  Save the file as txt.  Open Excel and then go to the location where you saved the file.  If you don't see it, in Excel, to the right of the file name, change the drop down list to all files.  When you open the file, you'll have to set the columns, formats, etc. and once you like it, Save As an .xls file. Usually it's not too horrible.  Hope this helps!
