File Printout Security

SUGGESTED

I know you can use the security settings to prevent users from getting into certain modules and tasks (Payroll, etc).  However I just noticed that it seems that any user can open any Timberline Print File from any module.  For instance, from TS Main any user can open the print files for payroll posts, direct deposit registers, print checks, etc even though the user is prevented from accessing the Payroll Module.

Is there a way to prevent users from opening these files.  We use Sage 300 CRE.

Thanks,

John

    Hi Bev,

You may want to adjust the way in which you have been securing your sensitive printouts. A hidden folder does not restrict access to it by other operators, and the operating system can be configured to show hidden folders fairly easily. Instead you may want to look into relying on NTFS and Share permissions for securing sensitive files like this. I'd recommend discussing the details with your IT staff, and I'd be happy to explain in more detail if it would be helpful.

    John,

Using NTFS and Share permissions as suggested by Casey and Kyle would be the recommended route for securing sensitive printouts. Please let us know if we can be of any additional assistance.
