Pervasive status code 3110

HI, 

We have been getting random errors, not on every client computer at our company. The error is

This program has quit.

I/O Error. Pervasive status code 3110. The network layer is not connected.

Has anyone ever had this? Is this really a network issue?

    Not sure if this is relevant, but we had problems with network disconnects. What we found was a switch was failing. Rather than just not working, the switch would do retries until the network packet would go through (sometimes). We replaced the switch and problems went away.
