So, I have been experimenting with Backup-Restore functions of the SQL databases. I was able to restore backup files from my primary workstation with its own SQL Instance to the emergency workstation with its own Instance of SQL Server. It went well enough.
I did find that the backups have to be on removable media or physically located on the machine where they are being Restored. I prefer to store the backups in Dropbox and/or OneDrive. However, those Folders are not discoverable, presumably because they don’t have a drive letter. Has anyone assigned a Drive Letter to either of those folders and successfully performed a Restore process?
Or, have you dragged-and-dropped the backups from those folders onto the desktop of the Restore-to machine without corrupting the file structure, and then restored from those copies? If you recall, Pervasive required the use of File Tools in order not to corrupt the data.
Hopefully, some of you will share your experiences working with these SQL files. This could save many users hour of frustration. In general, it would be nice to know how others handle backups and how those methods work with the Restore process.
