I have the same exact issue you described. A black box appears and a couple of seconds later Sage Estimating freezes completely. My issue happens in assembly data input. 

From my testing it seems to only affect certain estimates. I haven't contacted support yet though.

There was no solution when it happened on my system. Unfortunately, they had not been able to reproduce the issue, though they had seen it. It appears to be the fly-out Infor/Description Screen from items. I ended up uninstalling 23 and reinstalling 22.xxx. It's a bummer because I like the enhancements in 23.
