GL Posting and Asset Disposal

SUGGESTED

When you run the GL posting after disposing an asset that was not fully depreciated I get two different numbers in the GL posting report depending on how I run the report, either "all complete assets" or "active assets" ?  Why is that?

My reconciliation with our accounting software never balances based on this distinction.  I get a different YTD depreciation amount for the depreciation reports than what is in our accounting software for YTD depreciation because the amount entered from the GL Posting report is different.

    Hi, Jcampanella,

There is only one possible reason to explain why you see "two different numbers in the GL posting report" as you described in your opening paragraph.  And that reason is:  you changed the criterion for the Active Assets group.

How can I be confident of this?  Because the two groups <All Complete Assets> and Active Assets are the same assets with but one exception -- the Active Assets group does not include inactive assets.  And you may recall from the reply you read earlier today from Delray, who posted to a different thread, that inactive assets do not depreciate.

Perhaps, you changed the Active Assets group so that disposed assets (assets with an activity code of D or F) are no longer included in the group.  If that's what you did, it would explain why you found one figure for one group and a different figure for the other.
