Upgrading application SQL Server to 2014

Hi,

My group has been task with updating our SQL Server to 2014. This is were the application and config databases are stored. What are the best practices for performing such a task?

We are also using crystal reports but based off the system requirements this shouldn't be a problem. Only issue I can foresee is in the actual upgrade and maybe having to install FAS again.

Thank you,

Jarrod M

    Hello Jarrod,

What version of SQL server are you upgrading from? That portion is important to give you the right steps on how to best get the upgrade done without a big impact on the SFA data files and application.

This would be considered a type of a migration even if you do upgrade in place.

My suggestion would be the following:

You may have to install the SFA premier edition again on the server if it currently lives there where the data also is located.

Make a backup of the user asset data both via SQL backup and the company backup within the Premier client application. Here are the steps on How to backup a company If it requires you to do the installation of SFA Premier again, please login to the customer portal and click on My Downloads and located the Premier 2018.1 download (in the article is also a link to the installation guide) as I assume that is what you have. If you don't have a current support contract it would be recommended to connect with our Sage Fixed Assets renewal or sales team regarding more information on the support contract. Their contact information is 866-686-1875.

Yes I still do recommend those steps as you are setting up new servers where the program and data will be installed and live. See How to Migrate - SQL Server to SQL Server.

If you need further assistance, I would highly recommend contacting our support team between 9am-8pm EST Monday - Friday to get your questions answered.

Sorry about that. It is 2008 on Windows server 2008 which will also be upgraded to Windows 2012

Thank you for your answer Lovisa.

Our actual application is located (installed) on another server itself (Windows R2 2012). Knowing that wold you still recommend your above suggestion?
