Period Close was accidentally cleared, how can I reset it?

SOLVED

Hi,

The end-of-year Period Close was accidentally cleared and I need to reset it.  The last fiscal year-end is 6/30/2017 and depreciation has been run thru 3/31/2018.

Thanks

Tim

A Period Close is a copy of the Depreciation information from one set of fields to another. There is only one set of Depreciation information in the database at any given time, and that is the Current Through date. In order to set a period close in a prior period, you would first need to run depreciation back to that prior period.

To accomplish the recreation of the Period Close: You would be following the steps in How to run a report for a past or future period with the addition of setting the Period Close How to do a Period Close.

You could just run depreciation back to the period end date, then your select of Current Through Date on the change would be the same as the Period Close Date.

When you make a change and select the Period Close Date - The Period Close information is moved to the Beginning information fields which is the effect you are looking for in the going forward calculation.

The Period Close fields are blanked out because it was moved to the Beginning fields where is has the same effect as the period close prior to the change.

The problem I run into with re-running depreciation is that there are assets "...with a Beginning Date or Period Close Date information..." and they are not being re-calculated.  Do I need to manually clear the Beginning Date and related info and run the described process again?

Ultimately, what I am attempting to do is correct Est Lives on select assets.  Before the Period Close was cleared, I could change the life and method and select the option to re-calc as of Period Close Date.  With the Period Close Date cleared, I can re-calc from Current Thru Date.

I'm not sure I understand.  Thinking out loud, the company's YE is 6/30/2017, which is what I wanted to reset the Period Close Date to.  When I made estimated life changes before the Period Close Date was cleared, the Accumulated Depreciation at 6/30/2017 did not change, but the Current Year to Date accumulated depreciation did adjust based on the new estimated life.  When I tried to run depreciation to the current period and the make the estimated life change as of the Current Thru Date, the Current YTD was not correct.  I'd like the change to affect the current YTD, 7-2017 thru 3-2018.

The Begging information is a manual override of Depreciation. If you know the YTD and Accum amount you want on the asset (what was in the Period Close) you can just change the Beginning date to the FY End and enter the appropriate amounts in the Beginning YTD and Beginning Accum.

What I'm finding is that since some assets had the Est Life changed after the Period Close Date was cleared, the Beginning information fields were set to the last depreciation run which was 3/2018.  But, I'd like these to be 6/2017 so that YTD depreciation will be re-calculated from 6/2017.  Can I manually clear the Beginning data and then follow the Period Close Date process recommended above?
