transferring FAS 2013.1 to laptop

SUGGESTED

I am running FAS 2013.1 on my desktop but would like to be able to back that up and restore onto my laptop for travel purposes.

I have FAS for Peachtree by Sage 2008.1 on the laptop but can not restore 2013 backup.

    Hello Sinc,

    First, uninstall that 2008.1 product.

If the product you have installed on your Desktop is the Single user, then it should be a matter of uninstalling that 2008.1, then downloading and installing the 2016.1 Single user product to the Laptop and restoring that 2013.1 data at that time. You would also want to update your Desktop so that the data can be returned once you are done traveling since while you can restore 2013.1 data into 2016.1, the reverse cannot happen.

Even if you do not have the Single user on your Desktop and since all Sage Fixed Assets Products install as a free Trail, you could still download and install the Single user to your Laptop and it will function normally for 30 days.

2013.1 is no longer available for download, so no matter what you do, an update of some sort will be required. I would strongly recommend moving to the current 2016.1 version.

The Fixed Asset version I am running on my desktop came within Sage 50 not the freestanding version when they added a separate program. I have the link to update to Sage 50 2014 but it requires that I have an earlier version on my laptop to use it...and I can only find links to Sage50 2016 & 2017 online...What version do I need to use my 2014 update link...and where do I find the download for that?

    Hello Sinc,

The exact name of the product you have installed could change my answer, since I do seem to recall a Peachtree Fixed Assets which was an integrated with the Peachtree (Sage 50 was called Peachtree at the time) but I am fairly sure that that product was discontinued in 2003 or 2005 and that was not the Sage Fixed Asset product, that was a module written by another group, and would not prevent the 2014.1 product's installation.

If I remember correctly, the 2008.1 product installed with Peachtree was called Fixed Asset for Peachtree which was the FAS 50 Asset Accounting for Peachtree product written by us, but given to the Sage 50 group to install.

Which means you will be looking for Fixed Asset for Peachtree, Peachtree Fixed Assets or some variation, or FAS 50 Asset Account for Peachtree on the Add\Remove Programs list since I am assuming this is a Windows XP because the 2008.1 was never supported in Windows 7.

If, regardless of the version of Windows, there is no listing for any of the above in the Add\Remove Program or Programs and Features list then you have a broken installation which would have to be removed manually.

For the manual uninstall process please call into Customer Support at: 800-331-8514

The FAS module we used was 2008 and then it was integrated into Peachtree by Sage Complete Accounting 2009. We then upgraded to 2011 Sage Peachtree Complete Accounting and then to Sage 50 Fixed Assets Version 2013.1. This last version is the one I am trying to install on my laptop but it says I need a previous version on my laptop in order to upgrade (the download from the web)...but when I have 2008 on my laptop - it won't recognize it...Is there some way to contact "the other group" to get downloads for past versions???
Otherwise, I guess I look for other depreciation software...any suggestions?

If your data is already updated, we are only talking about an installation issue on an old laptop, not a PSG engagement to update your data. In this case, the older products would not be useful, since you will only get a different error due to the broken installation existing on that system.

Every update of the Sage Fixed Assets will only install over the prior version. The message you are seeing only means you need to uninstall that prior version which is from more than one version back.

I cannot give a suggestion without new information:

What is the version of Windows is on that Laptop? (If it is XP the answer would be to reformat and update since it is no longer a supported Operating system)

Is the product in the Programs List? and if so, which and do you get an error on attempting to uninstall? If so, what is that error?

Note: The fix, if the issue is what I think, is a registry hack which I am unlikely to publish here, but without the information I need to ensure I am not sending you down a rabbit hole, I could not in good conscience communicate in any way.
