2016.1 Upgrade - Manage User Licenses - Named User vs Concurrent User Clarification

Delray,

I am a bit upset based on information received here and from our sales rep. I spent a significant amount of time analyzing and suggesting how we can remove over 30 users so I could get down to 10 user licenses because I didn't want to be in default and have to purchase new licenses.  We upgraded to 2016.1 yesterday. I wanted to test the new feature, so I added an 11th user in the application and there were no warnings of the 7 day grace period.  I contacted support and found out  that a huge clarification is needed to the users who researched the issue here in this forum. Named license prohibition is based on machine installs - so if we were to load the software on individual PCs, we would have a limit of 10. Since we are a citrix shop, the licenses are only on 3 virtual servers. I was told my support that I could have unlimited users as long as we stick to the 10 machine licenses and they only use 10 or less citrix server installs if that is the way we are setup.  I wanted you and all the users know that since that is not was represented in March when I posted with others in this forum. In the end, it is not all bad.  The configuration we have now will actually streamline our processes based on the numerous surveys of use I sent to our user base, so a thank you is warranted to that.  Bottom line - the user base should know this fact/clarification going forward to save them the hoops I jumped through along with the headaches, etc.

Thanks,

Scott

    Hello Scott,

It is true that there is always a different between the rules and the practice. There is a difference in what you can get away with and what you have agreed to. And the Manage Users utility within the 2016.1 will continue to function like a concurrent users and you may very well get away with accessing the program by many more users than you are licensed for, but that does not change the End User License Agreement, nor the multiple sales agreements signed over the years which have Licensed the Sage Fixed Assets program to Named Users.

The rule is Named Users, what is described above is what you can get away with.

Also, the tech you were chatting with is having their mistake explained to them even as I type this.
