Copying from 1 tax book to another

SUGGESTED

I currently have an internal book and 6 tax books in a company.  Each month I load the additions using an import template.  Throughout 2015, many assets were not loaded into one of the tax books.  Now I want to copy all assets in one tax book to the 2nd book that did not get updated completely.  Is there a way to do that in bulk?  I could use "apply book defaults", but I believe I would have to do that for each individual asset.

    Anne,

Because you wrote that you are using the Internal Book for financial reporting and the other 6 books for tax reporting, you’ve implied that you are using the 2 custom books for tax books. But it’s not clear to me which book is missing the assets from the Custom Import that you did. If it is the State Book or either Custom 1 or Custom 2, there is an easy fix available. It’s the Copy Book feature.

Open your company in the Asset List view. From the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on Asset, and from the pull-down menu, select Copy Book. A dialog box will open.

All of your books are available for you to select as a source. But only 4 books are available as a destination. Hopefully, one of those destination choices is the one with the missing assets. Otherwise, you’ll likely have to do another import or as you pointed out, handle the correction one asset at a time.

You will probably want to remove the check to the question Overwrite Existing Data? on the right hand side of the dialog box because it's likely you only want to fill in data for assets whether there is no data currently. Click OK at the bottom right, and your work is done!

    Bob,
Thank you. The copy book function with the Overwrite Existing Data unchecked worked. I appreciate your help.

Glad to hear it worked for you. Thanks for the feedback.

FYI, Anne, we teach the Copy Book tool in the Intermediate Depreciation class offered through Sage University. If you think you might want to take a class Sage U, here's a promo code that will give you a 10% discount on the tuition: ALUMSFABM10.
