Net Book Value Report - Active Assets Only

For the first eleven months of 2014, when I ran the Net Book Value Report for the group of active assets only, I would see a value of $0.00 at the Less disposals and transfers. This is the result I expected to see based on the criteria of the custom group I was selecting.

However, when I ran my December reports, there was a number in this field. My objective is to have Disposals and Transfers at $0.00.

I've tried to locate the assets that make up the disposals and transfers but because our database is so large and the fact that the figure contains more than one asset, I've had no luck. FYI:  we are using FAS to track rented inventory among thirteen different locations; the result is hundreds of disposals and transfers every month. I can't figure out what is different in December.

It sounds like what you want is an active only group, since the default Active Assets group includes disposals and transfers:

    In Sage Fixed Assets:

    1. Go to: Customize, Group Manager.
    2. Type a name of the group, Click Add.
      • In the group criteria dialog box: Choose Activity field, is currently, and value of A, Click Add.
      • Note: If the other Active codes (A,D,F,J,K,L,M,N) appear, double click on the Find What: field to un-highlight the entire criteria, delete the other codes, and leave A.
    3. Click OK, Click OK again to close the Group Manager.
    4. On the Report Definition screen of any Standard report, select the group from the Group drop down box, Click Run Report.

Thank you for this suggestion. It makes sense, but I did double check and the group that I'm using does only have "A" for the activity status code. This is the same group that worked properly for the first eleven months of 2014 when I ran this report.

Then you have entered the disposal on the assets, but have not ran depreciation since entering the disposal.

For an asset to appear in Less Disposal and Transfers on the Net Book Value is based on the Key Code of ‘d’. It is possible for the Key Code to be assigned after the entry of the disposal, but the Activity Code to still be seen as ‘A’ in the Reporting index therefore all bet are off until after you run depreciation.

I ran depreciation again, still showing the same disposals & transfers. I also tried following the depreciation run with setting the period close. Same error is occurring.

Hmm, Have you disposed of any assets in 2015 yet?

Not one. (I appreciate your feedback and help. I'm stumped!) I can't think of anything different that took place in December that might isolate this problem, and I can't move forward into 2015 until I get it fixed.

Sort the NBV report by Disposal date with subtotals, if nothing flost up with that, sort the Date of Transfer out with subtotals

Good idea, but all the transactions list without a break (I put in a page break between dates) on both sorts.

There was an old issue which, I thought, long fixed where prior year disposals would suddenly start appearing on the NBV report. The workaround for that was to run depreciation the fiscal year end of the disposal and then they would drop off the report.

Try sorting the report by the Current through date since the current through date stops advancing on disposal, those older disposals should be at the top of the report.

Wow. Interesting. This one will take me some time. After I run depreciation for the fiscal year of the disposals that are hanging on at the end of the report, I have to run depreciation for Dec 2014 as well, correct? I may need to look into documentation on that old issue to provide to our auditors. Thanks again ... really hope this does the trick.
