Timeslips Today Bad Data

Several months ago I upgraded to TS 2017 from the 2015 edition.  Since then several panels on my Timeslips Today show incorrect data.

I have a panel that lists the last ten A/R transactions.  That has worked through several prior versions of TS.  After the upgrade it shows data for closed projects going back many years and does not include any current data.

A second panel lists the last ten slips entered.  Same thing – now it lists a bunch of old, billed slips.

I tried deleting and rebuilding the panel.  Even tried many different settings for selection, sort, columns, etc.  I tried standard versions of similar reports and tried more custom version.  They do not work.

Has anyone else had such an experience?

Other panels, like Projects with Overdue Balances, Slip Totals, Billable Fees work fine.

I contacted customer support and they stayed on the phone for hours trying many of the same things and more.  Did not work.  They asked for a copy of my database.  It worked ok on their machine.  I have been a TS user since 1995.  The Sage tech that worked on my computer did a complete reinstall, but it did not fix the problem.  Therefore it must be some other file that TS uses that is not in the main database that is causing the problem.  (My best guess.)

REPLY:  “Yeah it works on our end. And it may be a fix in a future 2017 Service Release.  So as a workaround you will just have to view that information in the slip list.”

I gave up for a few months – having to do some billable work for a change.  When I tried to get additional support I was refused as I did not have a service contract – even though this was a problem from an original installation.

Our firm purchased 2017 to fix issues with 2015. I did not transfer any information for fear that it would corrupt the new database. I manually entered in ALL the information and WE STILL HAVE ISSUES with the new 2017 database and it constantly crashes or sends me "Sage Timeslips has encountered an error" message saying the program is reading from a file, data in the file that may be damaged. How can that be if it is brand new and I spent hours entering everything manually? Sounds like a TS issue to me. I was told the same thing, purchase our service contract for what we feel is a damaged database we were sold.

I also get errors/crashes.  Though if I close and restart, all seems fine.  I did not mention this with my previous post about TS Today errors.  The errors get are:

    1) Failed to read streamed data.  The data appears corrupted; unknown object found.

    2) The Firebird Database Engine has encountered an error, cannot disconnect database with open transactions (1 active)

    3) [FireDAC][Stan][Eval] - 109. String constant is not terminated properly.

There are error codes associated with them.

I have never seen error 1 with Timeslips 2017 or 2018. With older versions it was usually due to inability to properly connect to the LOCKS.DB or LOGIN.DB file in the database.

Given that Sage couldn't find duplicate in their environment, I wonder if it is networking issues. What kind of network? Speed, cables, switches, etc? Have you had the equipment checked? Do errors occur on all computers?

Doubtful of it being a network issue.  I run TS on a single computer.  I am a one-person engineering consulting firm and have customized reports, terminology, etc. to work for my practice.

Playing around some more, many other selections for sections have similar problems: They will show transactions or slips but sortying by date does not work.  And, as soon as I change List Max. Item to some number - like 10 - it goes and selects what appears to be the 1st 10 by date (oldest) regardless of Sort Order.

The only way I can get close to what I want (last 10 slips or last ten transactions for open projects) is to use a date range to eliminate the earliest data.  Of course, I must then change that date range periodically.

You might try a relative date rather than an actual date so you don't have to keep changing it.

When you did the upgrade installation did you choose INSTALL or UPGRADE? If you chose upgrade, you might want to uninstall and reinstall using INSTALL. You should make sure you have your reinstall code from HELP > About Timeslips > Support Information. You will also need to make sure you stop the firebird server. I would uninstall and delete everything Timeslips except the database. Then reinstall.

If that doesn't help, I would be curious to take a look.

Great idea.  Thanks.  I've never used that tab before.  I set up transactions for the last qtr and slips for the last month.  So now I should not have to change the dates.

Yes, that is the idea with relative dates. They can be a lot of fun, and can help insure that your reports are more consistent because you don't have to depend on users entering the correct date range every time and perhaps making a mistake.

That sound like “the nuclear option”.  I may try it.

But, what might I lose?  For example, is Firm Terminology, that I have changed from the default, kept in the main database so that the changes will be available when I reinstall?  Should I keep my Report Templates in addition to the data folder and then delete all others after doing Uninstall?  (I would actually do a complete copy of the folder and subfolders to another drive before doing any uninstall or deletion.)  Should I uninstall the Firebird database?

I don't think uninstalling/reinstalling will help you because I am getting the same behavior in my own copy here.

Well, at least it is not just me or my machine.  p.s. I did try clearing temp files, but that did not help.
