Go to setup - general. You need to set the preferences for new client template to pick up from master. 

I already tried setting up the general tab to have it selected to master but its blank when I add a new project still.

Make sure your project separator is properly setup. This is also in setup - general 

There was a change to the way this was handled a few years ago.  What was your older version?  There are a few things to test and I am happy to help you, but I don't recall the exact combination of settings to get the master client info to populate.

We were able to find the issue.  When choosing to use the General Settings (as opposed to a Template client's settings) you must use the "Rules established in General Settings" when clicking Apply Defaults
