Split Billing Timeslips 2018 2 clients with separate billing cycles

SOLVED

I have a matter that is split 87.5%/12.5%  between two clients, both are LEDES1998B uploads, but one wants monthly invoices and the other only accepts quarterly invoices. Unfortunately Timeslips wants BOTH to print at the same time (and for some reason on the same LEDES file? WTH?).  To complicate matters, Client #2 also wants to see the full amount of the line items before the adjustment.  I tried doing a line item adjustment but that showed a different (incorrect) billing rate on the invoice which I know can lead to the invoice being rejected.

I'm flummoxed.

follow up regarding the LEDES file:  When I play with this and export the LEDES file, the file for client #2 is BLANK. WHY?

Timeslips does not support split billing for electronic bills. The only thing you can do to meet all your requirements is not split bill but instead duplicate the slips on each matter. On the matter where they want to see full amount, enter the full amount and put in a discount for the bill at the end. You can use the arrangement adjust total charges. For the other matter, just enter their percentage.

Yep, you are in a bit of a "between a rock and a hard place" situation.

I know of no other program that will simultaneously: split the bill, AND allow different times of billing, AND do LEDES1998B two different ways.

I think Caren is on the right track with her suggestions.  But I would maybe take a slightly different tack.

    Just off the cuff:

    1) Enter all slips on one Timeslips "Client." That will give you a full set of full value slips.

    2) Before you do any billing, export the unbilled time to a CSV file that we can then import against another account or two if needed (effectively duplicating or copying all the slips).  I think duplicating the slips manually one at a time is going to drive you crazy, and lead to human error.

    3) You can then bill the two accounts however/whenever you like.

         a) if the monthly one will work using the split billing you have in place, go for it and just strip out the second half of the LEDES file if it has too much info

         b) then bill the quarterly account with the full values (from the import), and an adjustment to appease the second client.

**Note that this will double the hours for your timekeepers as the slips have been duplicated.  If that is an issue, we might need to work on that a bit as well.

Thanks Nancy and Karen for your responses.  I've done a combo of both of your responses, but I  also created a dummy account for the split fee billing and will copy those line items over to a billing account for the actual quarterly billing. (I think - it depends on their specific invoice requirements and how they want the discount shown) The only fly in the ointment thus far: When the split billing was done and the invoice approved for the main client,  the line items copied over automatically to the placeholder "dummy" account, but they had all of the "L" codes  stripped out. Did I miss checking a box somewhere?

Did the "dummy" account have references setup? The L codes can't come in if they are not already setup on the matter.

Yes, the dummy account had all references set up just as I would do if it were an actual billable account.  The only thing that references it as a dummy account is the name and a big note from me in the nickname 2 box that it wasn't for time entry.

The only thing I can think of is if you keyed all the References again into the Dummy account instead of  using a shared list on a template.....
