Creating a second firm

Using TS14 -

How do I set up a second firm name to show on bills, reports, etc. I need to have both companies active, I can use the same db but each bill will have a different firm name and I cannot see how to create a second name w/o deleting the first.

Thanx,

There is only one FIRM NAME, per database from a global setting. With custom bill layouts and some duplicate reports layouts that are customized you can setup hard coded fields that ignore the firm settings. This is something a consultant like myself can help you with.

What if I create a second db? Will I be able to create a new firm name then?

    Thanx for the response?

Yes, but then you have to enter clients and time into the appropriate database. It would not take that long to show you how to do what you are asking, just a bit more than I can explain in a chat.

Well, let me check with the powers that be. A principal passed away and, as of this moment, there is zero budget for outside consultants. The dual db would only exist for s short time so data entry wouldn't be much of an issue.

, actually you've already gotten some very valuable consulting for free from @Caren2!!

I would also advocate for NOT creating a whole second database just to get a different bill header.  Really not necessary.  What Caren is suggesting would only take a few minutes to do, but is one of those things that just does not lend itself well to a free online bulletin board.

Also, I might also suggest setting up a custom field to track the old/new firm clients while you are at it.  Also quite easily done.

Understood , however I am just the worker bee, I have no control over the purse strings. I can keep the same db, the clients will be the same - all I need is the ability to create a new firm name. I can kludge it but if there's an official way, it would be easier. I'll explore the prf file and see what I can find there.

    Thanx!
