Can you convert a bill that is in PDF format to LEDES format

SUGGESTED

We have a client who and electronic billing platform that requires the bills to be in PDF format.  We recently submitted invoices in PDF format through their site.  They have now changed their billing platform and require those invoices to be submitted in LEDES format. Is there a way to convert the previously PDF'd bills to LEDES or will I have to "UNDO" them and run them all again in LEDES format. We have gone ahead and updated the electronic-billing filter for each case to LEDES. We are using Timeslips 2019.

Thank you.

You will have to undo the bills and run them again. Put them in proof and then send to audit.stage.

In addition to setting up Ledes format you generally have some custom fields that need to be setup on the timekeepers and the matters. Then you need to make sure your electronic bill format is pulling from the correct fields. It often takes a few trys to get it right.

I know of no way to take a PDF, and turn it into a LEDES format. You will need to reprocess them.

If you can just Undo the Finalization and redo, that is the least work.

If you cannot undo them for some reason, it is quite a bit more work. If you want to just keep your main database the way it is, and just reprocess the already approved bills, you can:  backup your database and restore it into a new database (I usually name it something like Sandbox) where you will temporarily work on redoing the LEDES bills on a copy of your database. Then export the billed slips from the main database and import them as unbilled slips into the Sandbox and reprocess the bills there, producing LEDES bills instead. Make sure the LEDES bills match the charges on the PDFs. Then as you get paid on the LEDES submissions, just post the payments to the PDF versions in the main database and move forward from then on in the main database. You can keep the Sandbox database if you would like for later use as a side-database for testing or looking for information from an old backup without having to overwrite your main production database. Just be careful which one you are in (look in the lower left corner) because after you restore, the two will look exactly alike.

As , said, if you are unfamiliar with LEDES billing, it will be quite different than how you have normally done billing. It is unclear from your post if you have experience with LEDES or not.

In any event, if you do fine you need/want assistance, help is available!
