Template for importing clients & client projects

Question

I am curious to know the best practice for importing clients and their corresponding matters/projects. I've looked for an excel template so I can see every option for importing information and the correct value for input (ex: yes/no vs true/false). Once I have imported all of my clients what is the best way to then import their projects? Can someone please point me in the right direction. Thank you!

 When we import information into Timeslips we use the free/included TSImport program to do so. Yes, you can import Clients. I don't know that there is documentation on "everything that can be imported and the correct value for the input "as you describe. TSImport has it's own Help file which has a section on what fields are available to import into for Clients. You could look at that, and see if it answers your questions. 
 
 Usually the limitation is on the incoming data. I.e., what will your data source spit out? Then, we get to: is there a place in Timeslips for it to land and be stored? 
 How do you intend to deal with Projects? Do you intend to use References? (One client, multiple subtotaled projects, one A/R balance) Or do you intend to import them as Client.Projects? (Multiple "client" records, each with it's own separate A/R balance) 
 Timeslips does both/either and you can even blend them (have Client.Projects that also have References), but you will want a firm idea of how you are going to do that before you start importing. 
 Have you used Timeslips before? Are you starting a new database from scratch? Or do you have an existing database that you are looking to add to, such as a new person joining the firm and bringing their client list? 
 Best advise is to make LOTS of backups as you go. Imports rarely go 100% smoothly the first time, so the ability to restore, tweak and try again is nice. 
 I have done many exports/imports/conversions into Timeslips over the years. It takes a bit of work, but if you have enough records coming in, it is usually faster to import them if you can, rather than keying them all in from scratch.
